The environemntal App that empowers students from diverse schools and backgrounds to become environmental change-makers
Hello everyone! My name is George Karadakis and I am an IB2 student at CGS school. I created an environmental App called “CASpire” with the goal to bring together students from diverse schools and backgrounds in Greece and not only, towards the same collective environmental mission: to make a lasting impact on our environment!
I created CASpire so to organize and spearhead a series of impactful environmental actions, ranging from reforestations and beach cleanups to park cleanups, recycling and clothes recycling efforts. Below you can explore our team’s work and past actions and we extend a warm invitation for you to become the next CASpirer!
Attention, attention: CASpire expands! The first international CASpire action has just taken place in Germany, with students from “Aachen” united with the mission to continue our environmental journey. Today, on the 29th of January they gathered at the local "Aachen Stadtpark", cleaning this natural heaven of biodiversity and making it greener again. I would like to personally thank our German friends for joining our team, and expanding CASpire and spearheading our first impactful action in Germany, marking the beginning of collaborative efforts towards a more sustainable future.
On the 30th of September our first clothes recycling action took place. Students from diverse schools all around Athens, including CGS and Pierce, gathered at the Mall of Athens where we collected bags with old clothes and donated them to H&M stores, which have a recycling action. In return, we received coupons which we used to purchase fresh, new clothes that will be donated to the homeless.
Incredibly, over 50 bags overflowing with old clothes were collected. A heartfelt thank you to all who participated in this action and we look forward to seeing you in our next event!
On the 29th of October we successfully completed our first beach cleanup action. CASpire had the utmost chance to collaborate with the Sino-Hellenic Youth Alliance, supported by the Chinese Embassy in Greece, with the aim to build bridges between the Greek and Chinese Youth. IB students from CGS school, as well as Chinese students from different schools in Athens gathered at Vouliagmeni where we cleaned one of the most beloved beaches of Greece.
Incredibly, over 30 bags overflowing with trash were collected and all reusable materials were recycled. A big thanks to everyone and I look forward to seeing you in my next action CASpirer!
On the 26th of November CASpire had the chance to take part in the inaugural action of the “Together We Can” reforestation project. We planted trees on Penteli mountain, assisted in the transportation of the reforestation supplies and, undoubtedly left a profoundly positive mark.
Incredibly, our team planted more than 100 trees and we collectively revitalized Penteli, transforming it into a greener and more vibrant environment!
On late August-September the Fix Park Project begun. Park cleanup actions took place, with students from CGS, Pierce as well as New Iraklio public schools united at Fix park, with the mission to clean our beloved park, collect all trash and recycle reusable materials. CASpire also participated in a symbolic Christmas trees planting.
Huge thanks to everyone who contributed to these environemntal actions and we will be more than happy to see you in our upcoming events.
Prince Otto of Bavaria has remained in history as a very important figure because he became the King of Greece. Specifically, Otto Friedrich Ludwig was born on June 1, 1815, and was the second son of King Ludwig I of Bavaria.
In 1832, the Great Powers (Britain, France, and Russia) chose Otto to become the first modern King of Greece after the country gained independence from the Ottoman Empire.
He spent approximately 30 years in Greece and lived in a mansion, nowadays known as Fix Park. Until recently, Fix Park was closed for many decades, but last year our municipality finally achieved to buy it and make this historical place open to the public.
For CASpire, it is our duty to maintain Fix Park, keep it clean, and honor the timelessness of this historic park-mansion.
See you in our next action CASpirer!
On the 14th of January, we successfully completed another reforestation action. More than 20 CASpire members once again contributed to “Oloi Mazi Boroume” reforestation project, planting trees in PIKPA and rejuvenating the land that had been devastated by fires the past few years in Greece.
Amazingly, our team planted more than 150 trees, which is our biggest record of all actions. A big thanks to everyone and we look forward to seeing you in our next actions.
On the 20th of January CASpire successfully took part in a clothes recycling project of “Oloi Mazi Boroume”, aiming to collect certain clothes types for the homeless of “Shedia”. We gathered at Marousi Town hall bringing socks, gloves, scarves and hats, and categorized all clothes people brought at the meeting point.
Incredibly, our team brought 12 bags filled with clothes, including more than 100 socks, 30 gloves, 20 scarves and 20 hats, overall gathering cloe to 200 different clothes! A big thanks to all CASpirers and “Oloi Mazi Boroume” volunteers
On the 11th of February CASpire participated in another reforestation with Oloi Mazi Boroume, this time planting trees in Pallini’s “Anthousa Open Theatre”. A representation of 7 IB2 students from CGS school planted broadleaved plants along the mountain.
Incredibly, we planted more than 75 trees, marking our impact once again. New very big actions to come…
On 14th of April, CASpire successfully participated and volunteered in an environmental philanthropic race in Penteli, organized by Oloi Mazi Boroume with the aim to generate money so to fund the reforestations that will take place all around Athens next year.
Our role was simple: collaborate with Oloi Mazi Boroume members, assist the organization of the event and guarantee the smooth fulfillment of this very important environmental race. This was achieved by splitting to teams, each covering a different part of the race route and offering runners water and bananas, as well as help and support.
On 21st of April, CASpire successfully participated and volunteered in the final environmental philanthropic race of Oloi Mazi Boroume for this year, this time taking place in Imittos. Once again the goal was to generate money in order to fund the reforestations that will take place all around Athens next year.
In this event a representation of my team covered the only supply station of the race at the 5km post, offering runners and participants water, bars and snacks. Once again we collaborated with Oloi Mazi Boroume members regarding the transportation of the reforestation supplies and the fulfillment of this very important race. Overall this was a very interesting race and event where we had a lot of fun, so we are definitely looking forward to volunteering again next year. More actions to come in the upcoming months!
